Rental property key turnover checklist in Denver
A rental turnover is a good time to review who has keys and whether the locks work as intended. This is an operational checklist, not legal advice. Follow the applicable lease, building rules and legal requirements for entry, notice, key changes and tenant access; consult a qualified local professional if you need legal guidance.
Confirm authority and schedule access
Identify the authorized owner or manager who will approve work and meet the locksmith if needed. Coordinate with the outgoing and incoming occupants according to your lease and applicable requirements. List doors, gates, shared spaces and any master-key system before scheduling. Do not change a lock or revoke access without appropriate authorization.
Choose rekey, repair or replacement
A working compatible cylinder may be rekeyed so old keys no longer operate it. If a latch is damaged, a cylinder is incompatible or the door does not close correctly, discuss repair or replacement instead — our lock change service explains quote factors. If the property has shared access or a master-key system, say so before changing any cylinder; a change to one door can affect the larger system.
Record the handoff
Confirm which doors were serviced and test each authorized new key.
Record how many keys were issued and to whom using your own secure records.
Confirm that building staff and authorized occupants have the access they need.
Keep the invoice and hardware details for future maintenance.
Do not put access codes or key identifiers in a public form or shared post.
For broader staff and contractor access planning, see our commercial key-control checklist. Call (720) 710-3141 during 6 AM–11 PM daily with the address, door count and authorization details to discuss a quote.
